Poke Salad

I am fascinated with the poke plant; although it is a weed I assiduously remove from my flower beds, I eat the greens in early spring (the mature plant is toxic), and I greatly admire the beauty of the berries in the fall.

For this work I gathered plants, both wild and cultivated, and used them to make a cyanotype. The border is pieced from silks. It incorporates hand embroidery and beading, and machine stitching.
